Error codes are the unit telling you what went wrong. The most common ones we see point to ignition failure, flame loss, venting or air intake problems, overheating from scale buildup or low water flow. Write down the code before you call, since it helps us bring the right parts and often shortens the repair.
This is often called a cold water sandwich or a flow problem. Common causes include a clogged inlet filter, scale on the heat exchanger, a low flow fixture that does not trigger the burner, a failing flow sensor or a gas supply line that is too small for the unit. We test each of these in order to find the real cause instead of guessing.
Hard water leaves scale inside the heat exchanger, which reduces efficiency, triggers overheat errors and can eventually damage the exchanger. In much of Douglas County we recommend descaling a tankless unit once a year. If scale keeps coming back quickly, a water softener or scale prevention filter protects the unit and your warranty.
Most tankless repairs involve replacing a specific component, such as the igniter, flame rod, flow sensor, fan motor, gas valve, control board or inlet filter. We service all major brands, and when a heat exchanger has failed on an older unit, we give you an honest comparison of repair versus replacement.
If the unit is under about 12 years old and the problem is a sensor, igniter, fan or board, repair is almost always the better value. If the heat exchanger is cracked or badly scaled on an older unit, replacement may cost about the same as the repair and gives you a new warranty. We show you both prices before you decide.
Yes. Annual descaling, a clean inlet filter, correct gas line sizing and proper venting prevent most of the problems we see. If your home has hard water, treating it protects the heat exchanger. Keeping the area around the unit clear of dust and lint also helps the fan and burner run cleanly.
